My clinical skills and interests are varied and diverse.  I strive to provide effective speech and language treatment in naturalistic and meaninful environments.  I also believe in collaboration with other professionals, in addition to building relationships with clients and their families and/or support networks.  

 

 

 

 

Autism Course Developer and Instructor

  • Currently developing the course CSD-570 Autism for the Communication Sciences Disorder Program at the University of Alberta.

  • Using a variety of telepractice platforms including Zoom to create pre-recorded sessions and set up interactive lab activities.

Home Based Speech and Language Pathologist

  • Completed assessments and created programming for children with Autism of various ages

  • Provided home based support in the areas of communication, play, and socialization to children and their families

More Than Words Telepractice- Ontario Autism Project

  • Instructed 4 separate More Than Words telepractice programs to families based in Ontario through the Ontario Autism Project with The Hanen Centre

  • Used Zoom and it's features to run interactive group sessions

  • Used Zoom and recording systems to provide video feedback during Individual Coaching sessions

  • Reported to and collaborated with The Hanen Centre for troubleshooting, problem solving, and idea sharing.

  • Observed, assisted with, and interpreted Modified Barium Swallows and Video Fluoroscopic Swallowing Studies.

  • Made modified diet recommendations based on swallowing assessments

  • Adminstered various adult language assessments such as the WAB, BDAE, and the RCBA-2.

  • Provided treatment to and developped communication tools for adults with Aphasia.

  • Gained knowledge about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) by participating in bi-monthly ALS clinic visits. 

Fluency Clinical Practicuum
Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research (ISTAR)

  • Taught adults fluency shaping skills and supported practice and use of these skills in various situations and environments

  • Gained experience in using a counter online to count stutters and calculate %SS.

  • Provided maintenance seminars and follow up for individual clients

  • Helped faciliate and provide support during a "refresher clinic" where adults come to refresh their fluency skills and connect with therapist and other stutters.

  • Assessed and provided twice weekly therapy to adults with Aphasia and Apraxia

  • Adminstered various assessment tools, including the CADL, ALA, WAB, BNT.  I also used informal measures to assess voice, oral mechanism, sequencing and speech programming, and reading and writing abilities. 

  • Made joint plans with families about goals of therapy and expected progress.  Encouraged families and clients to focus on functional abilities and compensatory strategies.

  • Increased my ability and comfortability with counselling and having discussions about emotions surrending the situation.
