Volunteering

Volunteering helps build strong communities and allows me the chance to give back in a meaninful and purposeful way.  Volunteering also encourages me to explore new adventures and have unique experiences and opportunties.  It allows me to combine my career with other things that I am passionate about.

  • In the process of training my dog Isla to become certified with the Pet Therapy Society

  • Isla and I will visit various locations such as schools, hospitals, young offenders centre, and independant living facilities, ect. to provide individuals with the opportunties to visit with us

  • Shadowed a Speech-Language Pathologist and an assistant while administering therapy sessions to adults with a ranging degree of aphasia.

  • Worked with adults to improve speaking and writing skills

  • Brought innovative games and ideas to therapy sessions

  • Tracked individual progress after each therapy session

  • Acted as conversation partner, and audience member for client presentations and final speeches.

  • Assisted in special event planning for events such as ‘Words Unbound”

  • Adminstration tasks including mail outs and documentation of donations

  • Translated books and therapy outlines into French to allow French speaking families access to these materials

  • Facilitated communication between Speech-Language Pathologist and client by being an active translator in weekly therapy sessions
